I felt I had the 'book knowledge' I needed and hoped the 'practical' knowledge would just be there.<br /> </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">A few hours after giving birth, I walked to the newborn nursery and looked in the window at all the tiny babies and the nurses who were caring for them. I was fascinated by the activity, and over the next few days of my hospital stay I spent hours at the window, just watching. I took in everything that was happening behind the scenes - diapering, bathing, feeding, burping, dressing. I noticed how relaxed the nurses were while handling the screaming, wiggly, tiny babies. They handled them like they wouldn't break. I was amazed at how they did everything so casually. The nurses 'swaddled' each baby snugly in it's receiving blanket. The baby became a small, solid package, easy to hold and it felt secure with its arms and legs safely tucked in. When passed around to all the loving friends and family - some who had never even held a newborn - the baby felt snug and safe. I continued the practice of swaddling for at least a month, maybe more. My baby didn't cry very much, slept well, ate well and was very content. I feel it was due to her feeling secure and loved; snug and swaddled.<br /> </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /> </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>GET TO KNOW YOUR BABY</b>. A baby loves to be held and talked to, touched and cuddled. I held my baby most all the time she was awake and only put her in her cradle when she was ready to sleep. Having nowhere else to go and being quite close to delivering her child, Mary sought refuge in an animal stable. There amidst the animals the Savior of the world was born. He was lovingly wrapped in swaddling clothes and placed in a manger. A star shone brightly above the stable to help guide those who expected the birth of Jesus.<br /><br />Neither pomp nor circumstance surrounded His birth. He was born under the most humble and simple circumstances, yet the significance of His birth cannot be matched by anything before or since.<br /><br />Jesus chose to atone for the sins of the world and gladly accepted His mortal role. Those that were spiritually in tune were aware of who He was and what He represented, although the world never accepted Him and His people even chose to crucify Him. His birth in the tiny stable filled with hay made it possible for each and every one of us, through our faith in Him and our own individual obedience, to be forgiven of our sins and return to live with Heavenly Father.<br /><br />There is no other name under Heaven whereby man can be saved. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we can enjoy eternal salvation. His atoning sacrifice saved every mortal being from temporal, or physical, death. He loosed the bands of that death brought into the world by Adam's transgression. It is a free gift to all without prejudice. We will put on the clothing of immortality after we have left our earth life.<br /><br />One born so long ago and in such lowly circumstances makes this possible for each one of us. <a href="http://www.christmasways.com/christmas-nativity-scenes-come-in-many-varieties/">Christmas</a> is filled with gifts, Santa, songs, and food. Good cheer is all around us as we enjoy special dinners and get togethers. While we celebrate this year we should take the time to remember what His birth truly means.
